Recently, the Karnataka government has approved the hike in reservations for SCs and STs based on the recommendations of the Nagamohan Das Committee report. This is a long due welcome move in the context of a historical demand from the Dalit communities. However, this move fails to address structural problem of graded inequality within the caste system, enabling marginalisation within the marginalised Dalit communities, and limiting the access to claim the benefits of reservation policy.
We invite you to a discussion led by Basawa Prasad, who recently co-authored a paper ‘Addressing Graded Inequality among the Scheduled Castes – Internal Reservation as a strategy’. This paper, authored by him and Arvind Narrain, was published as a part of the book, Caste Matters in Public Policy.
