Affordable and subsidised legal assistance
We offer affordable legal assistance to members of marginalised communities who are in need. Some of the areas where we offer legal assistance are:
- Caste Atrocities & Discrimination
- Domestic Violence
- Land Rights
- Gender Discrimination
- Matrimonial Disputes
- Labour Law and Industrial Disputes
- Criminal Law
- Constitutional Law
We only represent the individual that is at the disadvantage of a power structure. For example, in cases of domestic violence, our policy is to only represent women and queer people. This affordable legal assistance is also provided free of cost, subject to the nature of intervention and needs of the individual.
Our alternative practice of law is rooted in upholding human rights that are enshrined in the values of our Constitution. Legal interventions are only one aspect of the various kinds of support that we offer to organisations and communities.
What your donation will help support
Your donation can directly contribute to supporting our advocates in assisting the marginalised who are in need of effective legal representation. It will also help us intervene at times of crises, and assist victims and survivors access their fundamental right to a speedy trial. Our estimated projections this year are:
- Support for lawyering costs
- Printing
- Court fees
- Research costs
- Travel expenses
- Stationery and photocopy

Our litigation work has previously not been funded by any institutional donor. For over two decades, ALF has sustained these efforts with the support of donations and minimal fees collected from clients. To strengthen our rights-based practice, we strive to continue offering affordable legal assistance and working on our endeavour to integrate legal interventions with research and advocacy. We hope to build a network of citizens who want to invest in our work and participate in a collective effort to uphold the Constitution.
