CONVERSATIONS ON DISCRIMINATION – A NATIONAL CONSULTATION
Alternative Law Forum
Invites you to be a part two day national consultation scheduled on the
25th and 26th June, 2016 at the United Theological College, behind Cantonment Railway station
From 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM
The conversations will be by way of four panel discussions on discrimination in Education, Employment, Health and Housing. This consultation is in the context of our work on anti-discrimination since the last two years. Our work seeks to explore possibilities of a campaign against discrimination of all forms which may lead to the drafting of a comprehensive anti discrimination law that would address discrimination across caste, gender, adivasis, religion, sexuality, gender identity, HIV status, race, region, color, articulation capacity etc. Towards this end we have interviewed 85 people including lawyers and activists from different states in South India. These interviews have opened up a range of questions that would in turn reflect our engagement with different movements and the possibility of a formulation of a law. Pursuant to this, we have organized Inter-movement Dialogues, which is a place for discussion for members across people’s movements. There has also been a regional consultation in March 2016 on the issues of discrimination based on caste, class, disability and gender.
In continuation, the following panel discussions will assist us in thinking through some of the issues around discrimination further. Two to three panelists will be in conversation with the moderator and subsequently the floor will be opened for discussion.
