Bangalore has 2400 bus-stops and only 1400 have shelters. Several bus-stops which originally had shelters also today do not have shelters for a variety of reasons – because they are stolen, because the shelters were in local MP/MLA names and these were removed by their opponents when the said MP/MLA lost, because the shelter was damaged etc.

Lack of proper bus -shelters cause several problems – no shelter from Rain, no safety for women, no place to sit for waiting commuters, bus-shelters designed in such a way that if you sit in the shelter you cannot spot a on-coming bus etc.

Bangalore North and East especially have a problem of lack of shelters. Hence the Bangalore Bus Prayaanaikra Vedike is under-taking a bus-shelter audit on 06, Aug Wednesday.

How is the audit done ?
We board a bus in Byrati cross on Hennur-Bagalur road and buy a day-pass and travel to the next stop. At the stop, we will –

Take Photographs
Speak to bus commuters about any problems they have with bus-stops
Check if there is a shelter, seats and visibility of buses, availability of route-maps etc

We will then board a bus and move to the next-stop where we repeat the above process. We will do the same till we reach Frazer Town and then also go to Nagawara Signal from Frazer-Town.

The details observed will be collated in a report and submitted to Comissioner, BBMP ; the Mayor and MD, BMTC. ( BBMP is incharge of bus-stops in the city and not BMTC , hence we need to submit it to them as well! )

Please do join us in helping build a better bus-system for Bangalore!
