We’d like to invite you to a workshop on Access to Justice for Queer Persons to be organised by the Alternative Law Forum and International Commission of Jurists. The workshop will focus on the strategies that have been effective in engaging with the police and the court process and the ways in which we can share these ideas more effectively across different networks.
Date Saturday, 25 March 2017
Time 9.30 am to 2 pm
Venue Vishranthi Nilayam,
18, CSI Womens House, Infantry Road, Bengaluru
Whether at the level of the substantive law, or interactions with the police, or approaching lawyers and entering the space of the courtroom, there are many ways in which queer persons are denied access to justice. This workshop will address a few core questions: what are the strategies that have been effective in gaining remedies? What are the points to keep in mind while engaging in crisis intervention, and what are the ways in which lawyers can provide effective counsel for queer clients? What are the strategies that have worked in terms of using positive decisions like NALSA, or in countering the effects of the Suresh Kumar Koushal decision?
