Discussion on Draft Anti-trafficking Bill | ALF | Fri, June 17 | 5 pm

There have been a number of proposed legislative and policy changes initiated by the Central and State governments in the last few weeks. The Central government recently issued the Draft Model Rules for the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act of 2015, for which the last date of submission of comments was June 10th. The Ministry of Home Affairs released the extremely draconian Geospatial Information Regulation Bill, the last date of comments for which was June 6th. The Ministry of Women and Child Welfare has also issued a Draft Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2016, as well as a National Policy for Women. Lastly, the Karnataka State Government has also issued draft rules on the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act of 2014.
It is evident that these suggested changes have wide-ranging implications for different communities, and it is important that people understand and participate in the process of legislation. To this end, we at the Alternative Law Forum are inviting you to participate in a series of conversations around proposed law and policy changes. The first such discussion will be held on Friday, May 17, at 5 pm, on the Draft Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2016. We have attached the bill- please go through it and be present for the discussion.
We also invite others to suggest and present on any proposed law or policy change which they feel is relevant for a public discussion.
